"NOW IS THE RIGHT TIME TO FINISH MY CAREER" DAVID BECKHAM TO RETIRE FROM FOOTBALL.

After a very successful 2-decade career, David Beckham has announced his decision to retire from football at end of season.

Within the space of 20 years, the 38 year-old Chinese football ambassador played for five clubs namely; Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan and PSG.

"I'm thankful to PSG for giving me the opportunity to continue but I feel now is the right time to finish my career, playing at the highest level."

The PSG midfielder continued, "To this day, one of my proudest achievements is captaining my country. I knew every time I wore the Three Lions shirt, I was not only following in a long line of great players, I was also representing every fan that cared passionately about their country.

Beckham who has lifted 19 trophies including 10 league titles stated, "Nothing will ever completely replace playing the game I love. However, I feel like I'm starting a new adventure and I'm genuinely excited about what lies ahead.
I'm fortunate to have been given many opportunities throughout my career and now I feel it's my time to give back.

"I wouldn't have achieved what I have done today without my family. I'm grateful for my parents' sacrifice, which made me realise my dreams. I owe everything to Victoria and the kids, who have given me the inspiration and support to play at the highest level for such a long period."

DRUG TRAFFICKING: KING SUNNY ADE'S EX-GUITARIST GETS 3 YEARS SENTENCE

Veteran musician, King Sunny Ade's ex-guitarist, Fatoke Abiodun, who was arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on January 1, 2013 at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) after found with two parcels of cocaine weighing 1.575kg on his way to Italy has been sentenced to 3 years imprisonment.

He was sentenced by The Federal High Court in Lagos, yesterday after appealing and pleading guilty to one count charge of unlawful exportation of 1.575kg of cocaine.

On how he got into the mess, 62-year old Abiodun claimed he was unceremoniously retired after playing for King Sunny Ade for 30 years. He had to do something to pull though poverty and feed his large family (3 wives and 12 children).

"I live in Ibadan with my family. I was invited to Lagos where I was given 50,000 naira and they promised that every arrangement will be ready for me to travel soon. They promised to pay me one million naira. If not for my condition, I would have turned down the offer but it was my last hope to be free from financial difficulty.

I was given the bag and my ticket but at the airport NDLEA detected the drug. Since then, I have been in deep pain. I feel bad because I have no one to help me"
He regretted.

MANCHESTER UNITED'S RIO FERDINAND ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT FROM INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL

First it was Sir Alex Ferguson, now another key person is leaving the club. The Manchester United defender has announced his retirement from international football. This was confirmed by the FA.

The defender who has played two World Cups and has 81 caps stated ''After a great deal of thought, I have decided the time is right for me to retire from international football. At the age of 34, I feel it is right for me to stand aside and let the younger players come through, which allows me to concentrate on my club career.

'The team looks in great shape and there is an influx of young, talented players coming through the ranks which bodes well for the future. I regard it as a great honour and a privilege to have represented my country at every level from U17s upwards. I have always been very proud to play for England. I would like to wish Roy and the team all the best for future tournaments.

'A big thank you to all the fans, managers, coaching staff and players that I have worked alongside - the journey has been incredible '

SINGER, ASA ESCAPES CAR ACCIDENT

Award-winning Nigerian singer Bukola Elemide popularly called Asa escaped an auto-accident today in Nashville, USA. Nothing serious and thank God she's perfectly fine. She narrates the scenario via her twitter account.

"I just been in an accident in Nashville. I was crossing an intersection,going for a walk, a car turning didn't see me and boom!! Sent me flying. Thank God I landed on my padded butt. The only thing that got crushed was my water bottle.

The driver wore tiny frames that f'ed up her peripherals. Told her she need jumbo glasses like mine. I'm well just a little wooz.
I feel a little woozy. But everything's fine. Got a ride in a police car and let the driver off with stern warning.

Was in shock for a minute. Paramedics checked my blood pressure. Everything's fine. Thank God I'm alive today. Hope you are well."

Then she plays down the situation, " Trouble sleep yanga wake am. I had on black pants, black jumpers, "Hiphone" is black +I'm Black. How the hell was the lady going to see me."

DAVID MOYES TO SUCCEED SIR ALEX FERGUSON

Less than 24hours after Sir Alex Ferguson announced his retirement as manager of Manchester United, David Moyes is taking over. He has signed a 6-year deal to become the new manager.

The Everton helsman will be joining the club at the end of the season,
'I am delighted that Sir Alex saw fit to recommend me for the job. I have great respect for everything he has done and for the football club. 

I know how hard it will be to follow the best manager ever but the opportunity to manage Manchester United isn't something that comes around very often and I'm really looking forward to taking up the post next season." He stated.

71-year old Ferguson who has spent 27 years in the club believes Moyes is the perfect candidate for the position. According to fergie, as widely called, Moyes doesn't only have a highly commendable and successful career, he will help build teams for the future and take the club to an all-new height.

TO STAY OR NOT: MOURINHO FINALLY MAKES HIS DECISION

Yes we can now stop guessing. Self-proclaimed Special one and Real Madrid coach, Jose Mourinho has decided to continue at Real Madrid next season. This was confirmed in a press conference few hours ago.

It would be recalled that the Portuguese hinted he was on his way back to England just after his team lost to German club, Dortmund at the Semi-final stage of the UEFA Champions' League.

MEET BRITISH-NIGERIAN FEMI OKE, THE NEW HOST OF AL JAZEERA'S THE STREAM

Renowned British-Nigerian broadcaster Femi Oke, has landed another great role. The former BBC, Sky and CNN journalist has been revealed as the new host of Al
Jazeera English's hit social media show, The Stream.

The Stream is billed as a social media community with its own television
show. It received critical acclaim since its launch in 2011, winning the Royal Television Society's award for Innovation, a Webby People's Choice Award for News and Politics, and a Gracie for Outstanding News Talkshow. It also received an Emmy nomination last year for New Approach to News and Documentary Programming.

The US-based Femi Journalist who has spent nine years anchoring and reporting for CNN in Atlanta also anchored the programme, Inside Africa, for the last five
years she has been a senior editor and host at the largest NPR affiliate in
the US, WNYC.

The TV veteran is excited about the job, "I've been watching The Stream since it first came on air, because it was so different from anything else on
international television. I loved how it responded to the explosion of Social media, used Skype and Google Hangouts not just as back-ups like a lot of programmes do, but as a genuine way to connect with viewers. I must admit watching from my laptop in New York I was amazed and a little jealous.

She continued, Here was a show that got social media, had a young engaged audience, covered the news, and a broad range of topics in way that made current affairs fresh and exciting.

Paul Eedle, Director of Programmes at Al Jazeera English, said, "The Stream
continues to be a great success for us, and is pulling in ever greater audiences online and on air. Femi's style is warm and inclusive so she's perfect for the interactivity of the show.

In 2007 Femi Oke's work in Africa was recognized by The Economic
Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Communications Agency with the presentation of the African Achievers Award 2007. Femi was also named Nigerian media personality of the year in 2007 and picked up the Interaction media award in 2008 for her commitment to broadcasting the complex issues of Africa.
